1. Who can use layr

You must be at least 13. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian to agree to these terms on your behalf, and you should read them together.

If we have previously removed your account, you may not make a new one.

2. Your account

Keep your sign in details to yourself, and tell us if somebody else gets into your account. You are responsible for what happens under your handle.

Do not pretend to be somebody else, and do not use a handle designed to make people think you are.

3. What you make stays yours

Your recordings are yours. We do not claim ownership of anything you make.

To run the app at all we need your permission to store your recordings, show them to other people using layr, and include them in a finished layr. So you give us a non exclusive, worldwide, royalty free licence to host, copy, process and display what you post, for as long as it is on layr and for the purpose of running layr. That licence ends when you delete the content, except where section 4 applies.

We will not sell your recordings, licence them to anybody else, or put them in advertising.

4. Layers, and what happens when you join somebody's layr

This is the part that is specific to layr, so it is worth being plain about.

By taking a slot, you are agreeing to that. If you are not comfortable with it, do not take the slot.

5. What you may not post

There is zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour on layr. Do not post, upload or send:

Do not try to break the app, get into other people's accounts, scrape it, or use it to build something else.

6. How we moderate

Every recording uploaded to layr is checked automatically before anybody else can see it. Material that clearly breaks the rules above is rejected and never appears. Material the system is unsure about is held for a person to look at.

We review every report we receive and act on it, including removing content and removing people, within 24 hours.

We can remove anything, or anybody, at any time, with or without warning, if we think these terms have been broken. We will not always explain why in detail, because explaining exactly how a decision was reached is an instruction manual for getting around it.

7. Reporting and blocking

Every layr and every person has a report option, and every profile has a block option. Blocking is immediate and private. The person is not told.

If something is urgent, email hello@mylayr.app and put the word urgent in the subject.

8. Music and other people's work

Only post recordings you have the right to post. Playing somebody else's song means you need the rights to do that, and performing a cover does not automatically give them to you.

If you hold rights in something posted on layr without permission, email us with enough detail to identify it and we will remove it. Repeat infringers lose their accounts.

9. Ending it

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We can end your access if you break these terms. Sections 3, 4 and 10 survive.

10. The legal necessities

layr is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always work, that it will never lose anything, or that it is fit for any particular purpose. We are one person and a small amount of equipment, and we say so plainly rather than in capital letters.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us, which is currently nothing, or 50 US dollars.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot legally be limited. If you are a consumer, you keep every right your local law gives you, and nothing in these terms takes those away.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to conflict of laws rules.

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
